Why to add Homeopathic remedies to support your children
Why Add Homeopathic Remedies to Support Your Children
by Raquel Dutra, PHom, CIH
Sometimes we notice something that doesn't feel quite right, in ourselves, or in our children, and we're not sure what it means. Is this a symptom of something else? Is it common, is it normal, where does it even fit? We are all individual human beings, each with our own expression and our own infinite way of being.
Being a family means sharing all that we are becoming with each other, inside the safe space of a household, a space that holds our family history and our own health story too. Some things that pass through us we understand right away, we know exactly what it means and what to do. Other times, we have no real idea what's going on.
That's often when we begin searching, for health practitioners, coaches, therapists, anyone who can help support us and the people we love, and help resolve what we're facing.
This is where homeopathy is so rich. It reaches into so many areas that other health practices address separately, that it can genuinely support many things at once. That doesn't mean other practitioners aren't necessary, I love working alongside other fields, and always will. But homeopathy goes deeper, and further, with a real capacity to restore balance and help the body reconnect with its own life force, its chi, its energy.
Two Stories From This Week
I was talking with a couple yesterday whose son had just been diagnosed with Lyme disease. After a stressful week, they found a tick on him, and shortly after, the known symptoms showed up: the bullseye rash, joint pain, a stiff neck. Their doctor had started him on antibiotics. But I asked them a simple question: what are you doing to actually support his body through this?
The father asked, "Probiotics?" Absolutely, I told him, even simple things like sauerkraut and kefir are wonderful natural sources. But I'd add more than that.
I'd bring in herbal support to help the body do the antibacterial work alongside the antibiotics. Japanese Knotweed is increasingly used in Lyme-support protocols for its anti-inflammatory properties and its support of the cardiovascular and neurological systems, which Lyme often affects. Teasel root is traditionally used to help draw spirochetes out of deep tissue and joints, especially once symptoms have settled into the joints themselves. Cat's Claw is an immune-modulating herb that supports the body's own immune response while calming inflammation. Together, these nourish the body through the process rather than leaving it to fight alone.
Alongside that, homeopathic remedies: Ledum 200c, twice daily, is one of the most specific remedies for puncture wounds, exactly the mechanism of a tick bite injecting bacteria into tissue, which makes it a natural fit here. I'd also add the main bacterial nosodes for Lyme (Borrelia, Bartonella, and Babesia) in homeopathic form, preparations made from the organisms themselves, used to help the body's immune system recognize and respond to these specific pathogens. And Aurum Arsenicum 200c, twice daily, a remedy I consider especially important for supporting deeper detoxification and helping the body clear Lyme more completely.
Here's why this combination matters so much to me: antibiotics alone can sometimes suppress the disease rather than fully resolve it, meaning symptoms can return later, sometimes much later. When the body is well supported through the process, the antibiotics can do their job as a jump start, while the natural and homeopathic remedies support the deeper healing underneath, the healing that actually uproots the condition rather than just quieting it for now.
A Different Kind of Support
Another family I met with recently was dealing with something very different, they noticed their child was striking his head at the bed to help him fall asleep. The parents weren't sure if this was something to worry about or just a phase, they honestly didn't know what to make of it.
What struck me most in that conversation was how few parents realize that homeopathy can help here too. This wasn't about right or wrong, it was about their child's nervous system looking for a way to regulate itself, and finding a habit that, left alone, could become a harder pattern to shift as their brain continues developing.
Remedies like Apis, for restlessness and that constricted, uncomfortable sensation some children carry into sleep; Cina, a classic remedy for irritable children who want to be rocked or held, often paired with this exact rocking or head-striking pattern; Arnica, for the physical impact of the striking itself; and Nat Sulph, which supports the nervous system after any kind of head impact, can offer real, gentle support here, helping a child's nervous system find its own sense of balance and ease at night.
The Bigger Picture
Both of these stories point to the same truth: our children's bodies are always trying to heal, regulate, and make sense of what they're going through, whether that's a tick-borne illness or an overloaded nervous system. Homeopathy doesn't replace the care your child may need. What it offers is support for the whole picture, helping the body do what it's already trying to do, more completely, and with less left unresolved underneath.
This post is educational only and doesn't replace medical care. Always work with a qualified practitioner for your child's individual needs.
